The Ultimate Outfit....part 1

I have several folders on my computer dedicated to my Dream Wardrobe. Anytime I come across a look or piece that I love online, I add it to my wardrobe. Each entry is tediously labeled and organized by type - clothing, shoes, bags or accessories.
I occasionally think of what I would wear with what, and have come up with some pretty exciting looks, and I'd love to share them with you! I've pieced together some pieces, paper doll style, on Photoshop (excuse my photoshop skills - I'm sure I'll get better with practice!).

So here begins  Excerts from My Dream Wardrobe.....The Ultimate Outfit.  Enjoy!

This Ultimate Outfit is composed of......
3.1 Phillip Lim lace dress

Burberry Prorsum ombre trench coat (this is also the original image)
Camilla Skovgaard suede wedge boot
Jil Sander lazer cut Madame bag

Marni flower necklace
Eddie Borgo Horror cuff

Abraxas Rex Herkimer diamond earrings

Art for Eat Sake

Some may know, but many don't.... I love Piet Mondrian. There was a point in my life when this love bordered on obsession - everything was inspired by Mondrian - art projects, fabric choices, a hooded scarf I made..... and at one point I even considered getting a tattoo of Composition with Red, Blue and Yellow. UnfortunatelyPiet and I kind of lost touch a couple of years back.....

....But today, I found something that rekindled my love for the Dutch painter....

'Mondrian Cake'

The cake is a creation of Caitlin Williams Freeman of Blue Bottle Coffee Bar in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. (You can read the all about it Caitlin's inspiration and process here). I'm not going to hate on her for it not being exactly like the original, although some of the spirit is lost by not maintaining the same areas of color (the painting was partly a study in visual balance - varying line weights balancing out blocks of color). And I bet the original painting doesn't taste nearly as good.
Brilliantly, most of the pastries she makes for the cafe are inspired by the museum's collection. This is awesome, because pretty things that taste good are infinitely fascinating to me. I hope to visit Blue Bottle someday and see what else Caitlin has to offer. Don't worry, I'll take lots of pictures.

Seeing this inspired me to find out what other cool Mondrian-inspired things are floating out there in the world.....

Shop Talk

To all you retailers out there wondering why you can't sell through way-too-much stock every single season, wise words from Azzedine Alaia......

“There’s a fatigue in fashion, I think. Designer fashion is different now. Designers cannot create so many collections—cruise and pre-fall, accessories—when normally two-a-year is more than sufficient. A designer simply cannot invent something new every two months or so. It takes six months of research and work to build a new silhouette. I work until very late every morning since I do many things by myself. Personally, I know it’s not possible. That’s the reason why fashion today does not change very much. There is no time to think, to invent something new. You can no longer be excited or surprised. Rarely is there any freshness.”
